Stream Cleanup Intern

Goals of the Role: The RHA Stream Cleanup Intern will assist the Water Resources Associate in administrative and event organizational tasks to ensure the RHA Annual Stream Cleanup program runs smoothly. The position will provide the intern with experience in project and event management, communications, and environmental programming.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Stream Cleanup Intern acts as the point of contact for the local municipalities that we work with. This involves maintaining communication while we plan site details for the day of the event, April 5, 2025. The primary responsibility of this role will be to facilitate that communication, as well as assist in event preparations. Tasks will include:

  • Conduct site visits prior to the event
  • Conduct inventory on existing supplies and assist in the purchase and organization of additional supplies
  • Assist with volunteer management before and after the event
  • Assist with communication to local municipalities to coordinate site-specific details for the event
  • Research promotional items to be distributed to participants during the event, and coordinate purchase
  • Add event details to online community Earth Day event listings
  • Coordinate the distribution of community bulletin board posting with staff
  • Assist with site supervision the day of the event
  • Assist Water Resources Associate with other administrative and organizational tasks as needed, including compiling data and drafting the Stream Cleanup summary report
  • Additional tasks as necessary.

Reports to Water Resources Associate. May be required to travel around the watershed region (including parts of Hunterdon, Morris, and Somerset counties).

Qualifications: Exceptional organizational skills, project management, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and access to reliable transportation; a passion for environmental conservation is a must. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel required; experience with GIS mapping software is a plus.

Time Requirements: 150 hours from January 6, 2025, through April 15, 2025; weekly hours vary based on the project timeline. Required to work some evenings and the date of the event, Saturday, April 5, 2025. Work hours are flexible and can accommodate other school, job, or personal schedules.

Compensation: $15/hour

Location: RHA’s Headquarters at Fairview Farm Wildlife Preserve, 2121 Larger Cross Road, Bedminster, NJ.
